Nowadays people are creating scrapbooks for everything from pets to special days in their lives. With this in mind it does seem fitting that a toddler scrapbook is not at all strange but quite an interesting idea. The only problem is that there aren’t many scrapbooks created on this theme so inspiration sources are not many. On the other hand, this is what makes it so unique, challenging and fun. After all, every scrapbook should be unique and creating one just like the one a friend did or one that was researched on the internet actually destroys the reason why we enjoy scrapbooking. Let us think about what you need to know when you decide to embark on your toddler scrapbook creating adventure.
Basics of the Chronological Approach
One of the easiest ways to create a toddler scrapbook is to do it by following a chronological approach. This means that your end result will come organized by the period in which the events happened. The first picture will portray the oldest photo in the album and the last one the newest. The one thing that you will need the most is the capability of doing as many pictures as possible. This is needed as the centre of attention is the toddler. Such small children have the ability of always doing something funny and you can end up with a lot of interesting photos that should be added to the ending scrapbook. You will need to highlight all the important events that go on in a toddler’s life and arrange everything chronologically. In order to not lose track we recommend that you write down on the back of each picture the date when it was taken. You can also utilize a notebook to write down more lines concerning what happened that day the photo was shot. For instance, you can say that on X day the child was very hyper when playing with the family dog and was throwing food at him, making a mess while terrorizing the puppy. It might have not been funny for the dog but the overall picture can be hilarious and should be included in the scrapbook.
Do the Scrapbook as the Toddler Grows
The easiest way to create a very good toddler scrapbook is to add pages to it as events happen. This basically means that it will all be a huge scrapbooking project that will last for months. You will not miss anything and the album will be as complete as possible. The only drawback possible is that you might end up with a much bigger scrapbook than expected. On the other hand this is not a problem and could make everything even more special. What you need to do is stock up on supplies and make sure you have enough to complete everything at the end. Focus on the gender of the child and choose appropriate and matching colors for both the cardboards utilized and the paper that is to be added. You could also purchase some sticker sets now, related to the baby theme but those can be put on later as well. Choose the size of the scrapbook and decide whether you will go with one picture on a page, two, three or however you want to organize it. You will also need to buy extras for every consumable product in order to not run out. Such elements can be re-purchased if needed but there is also a chance that you might not find the same colors in pencils, paper or cardboards so it is best that we do not undergo such a risk.
Next on the list is always carrying your camera with you. Have fun with your child and always teach him new things, develop a bond and take pictures as all this happens. You never know when something special is going to happen and you might lose an important event if your camera is not there. Examples of important events include the first words and the first steps. Such two precious days need to be included in the toddler scrapbook and they are quite a highlight of the end product. Also, if you see your toddler doing something funny or special just right it down and take a picture. This will aid you when you put everything together as you can also add some text to the scrapbook. It is actually better to add personal text and footnotes as it makes the album warmer and more special when compared with just one that is filled with pictures and decorations and no word. You can even choose a special motto that characterizes your toddler. We have seen mottos like “If I can be found then I am not hiding hard enough” (for a child that was always playing hide and seek) or “Crush the car, Crush the toy, Love my mommy, I’m a boy” (for a child that was constantly destroying toys but was always very calm and did not do anything when mom was around).
Questions to Ask Yourself
In order to add even more personality to the toddler scrapbook you could ask yourself some questions related to him/her and include the answers in the album. What does your child always say or do? What does he/she like to do and enjoys a lot? What is the toddler’s favorite song? What does the child do when going to bed? Is he afraid of the dark? Does he like running and discovering or talking? What does the toddler love to paint or draw? What makes him sad, happy or get into any similar condition? Answer these questions and you can put them in your toddler scrapbook. Add a picture whenever available and you will gain on personality points. It is highly important to add decorative elements and the end and the focus has to stay on pictures. Your child needs to be the highlight of the scrapbook and not your own talent. Use that talent to decorate while focusing in keeping the centre of attention on your toddler.
