Online Spring Scrapbooking Classes Part 2 (Self-Paced Options)

You have 3 choices when it comes to online scrapbooking classes.  Self-paced classes can be taken at any time.  You enroll in the class and work through the materials at your own pace.  Workshops are instructor-led courses that have much more interaction between the students and teacher and usually run for a specific period of time.  The third option is a virtual workshop which runs in real time usually through a webcast or chat room.

Here are a few of the websites that are offering self-paced online scrapbooking classes for spring.

Get It Scrapped at debbiehodge.com offers ongoing self-paced classes in art journaling, digital scrapbooking and much more.

Jessica Sprague has a large number of self-paced classes including beginner, intermediate and advanced digital scrapbooking techniques.  She also has self-paced hybrid scrapbooking projects, a family history album class and many more.

At Renee Pearson, Tiffany Tillman’s template class is now being offered as a self-paced course.  It’s called Summer Templates Reloaded.

Ali Edwards has a self-paced travel album class called Scrapbook on the Road. She teaches you her process for planning and completing a travel scrapbook.

Big Picture Classes has a large variety of self-paced classes.  Tracey Clark (from Shutter Sisters) now has her Picture Spring class as a self-paced option.  Amy Tangerine has a self-paced workshop called Get Those Creative Juices Flowing. I bought this class myself because I wanted to learn Amy’s technique for creating scrap paper albums.

More class options coming tomorrow!

Online Scrapbooking Classes: Spring Classes Part 1

So many online spring scrapbooking classes are available that I decided to bring them to you in a few posts over the next couple of days.  Let’s start with the ones that have fast approaching final registration dates.

Blogging for Scrapbookers at Shimelle.com
I’m not sure when the registration closes for this class, but it’s already in session.  We are in Day 4.  However, it would be very easy to catch up!  This class is all about telling your stories through blogging and scrapbooking.

I’m taking this class myself.  One of the awesome things about many of Shimelle’s classes is that you can retake them each year at no additional cost. You meet a new group of scrapbookers in the forum and catch up with old friends.

Your Life: Captured Through the Lens at Get It Scrapped!
This class is taught by Katrina Kennedy who is known for her expertise in photography.  This class began on March 22, but registration doesn’t end until March 30.

This is a 6 week class that will cover how to use your camera’s features and step by step instructions for taking great photos.  I’ve never taken a class by Katrina, but I have read her ebook, Get Me Off Auto available at Designer Digitals, and it is awesome!

Write Down to Your Nitty-Gritty: Emotional Wellness through Exploratory Journaling At Big Picture Classes
This class is taught by Karen Stockham and started today, March 24. Registration ends March 30.  I’m taking this class because I love the idea of exploring emotional wellness by combining scrapbooking and journaling.

Just Curious at Big Picture Classes
This class is taught by Tami Morrison.  It also started today, and registration ends on March 30.  This is a 3 week class designed to help you increase your inquisitive nature and apply your curiosity to your daily life.

Are you curious now?  Go check out a few of these classes and see if one looks interesting to you.  I hope to see you in class!

5 Reasons to Take an Online Scrapbooking Class

December 2nd detail

If you’ve been following my site for long, you know I love taking classes online – especially scrapbooking ones!

I also take scrapbooking workshops locally, but there are so many reasons to take online classes as well.  Here are just a few reasons to consider taking one this spring:

1. Online scrapbooking classes are often taught by the biggest names in the industry.  Through video on your computer, you can interact with your favorite designers like Ali Edwards, Jessica Sprague, and Tiffany Tillman.

2. They are convenient! You can take them at any time and any place that works for you.  Most online classes don’t require you to be present at a certain time (there are some exceptions, so check the class description).

3. You can interact with far more fellow scrapbookers than you can in a local class, because online classes can accommodate much larger groups. Some even have unlimited enrollment.  Through class forums you can create virtual scrapbooking friendships.

4. Online classes offer more variety.  Your local area can only offer so many options, but there are many more scrapbooking classes available online.

5. Take the class again and again!  Nearly every online scrapbooking class website allows you permanent access to the classroom materials, including the written and video instruction.  So you’ll always have the ability to go through the class again as a refresher.

Now that I’ve got you thinking about taking an online scrapbooking class, tomorrow I’ll tell you about a few of the options available this spring.  I’m really excited about True Scrap – one event with a dozen scrapbooking workshops!

True Scrap is a virtual online scrapbooking experience with a dozen of your favorite scrapbooking instructors offering classes and make’n'takes.  It runs from April 7-9, 2011.  This definitely a scrapbooking event you don’t want to miss!  I’ll be writing more about the instructors and the classes over the next week, but I wanted to give you the basic information so you can set aside the dates now.

What Scrapbooking Classes Are You Taking This Holiday Season?

It’s that time again when your list of things to do seems completely out of control.  The holidays mean more shopping, more baking, more parties, more time with family!  Even though my time is limited during December, I try each year to take advantage of a couple of the online scrapbook classes that not only teach me new scrapbooking skills, but also help me to reflect and enjoy this wonderful season.

There are so many online scrapbooking classes going on right now, it’s hard to choose only one.  I’m taking 3, which may sound a little crazy, but the awesome thing about these classes is there is no pressure.  I can do them at my own pace and finish them in January if I need more time.  I also try to keep them simple.   I try to focus on the experience with these projects, not necessarily a perfectly embellished product.

Here are just a few of my favorite online scrapbooking classes this December:

Jessica Sprague’s Inspiration Everywhere – This is a free class that runs from November 29-December 8.  It includes creativity prompts, printable projects and organization ideas.  You don’t need Photoshop for this class either.  Jessica is one of my favorite online scrapbooking teachers.  She’s awesome! (And she thinks you’re awesome too!)

Tiffany Tillman’s 25 Days of Templates: Holiday 2010 Edition – I’ve become a huge fan of Tiffany’s template classes.  This class is available for both Photoshop and Photoshop Elements and runs from December 1 through December 25.  Tiffany will be teaching photography tips for the holidays, journaling ideas, design techniques and digital skills.  This class is not a repeat of her previous template classes.  It features new templates, digital scrapbooking products, lessons and techniques. One of the highlights of this class is an exclusive holiday digital kit designed by Paislee Press!

Shimelle’s Journal Your Christmas – This is one of Shimelle’s scrapbooking classes that run each year, like her Learn Something New Everyday class.  Once you take the class, you get access to past year’s classes as well as ongoing registration in future classes at no additional cost.  It’s a great value!  Journal Your Christmas class begins December 1 through January 6, and includes 37 prompts that you receive by email.  There is a digital kit, and a class forum is included.  She also provides photography tips, crafting tutorials and a bonus workbook with holiday blogging tips for bloggers.  I love this class because she really keeps the journaling process simple and flexible.

Ali Edwards’ December Daily – Now this isn’t a class, but it’s an annual project that has become an Ali tradition.  She walks you through her process of creating an album for each day of December.  You can even go back and look at her albums from previous years.  If you need a shortcut for your December Daily album, she has created digital templates for your album available at Designer Digitals.  December Daily has become a holiday favorite throughout the scrapbooking community.

So, what holiday scrapbooking classes are you taking this year?

Day 11-true love

It’s no secret that I love online scrapbooking classes.  I’ve reviewed a few of them on this site.  Over on the Daily Digi, Katie has listed and reviewed several of the best places to find online scrapbooking classes.  It’s a comprehensive list that includes her reviews of classes she’s taken, the basic information like the URL and instructors, an overview of the site, current or upcoming classes, and classes she has taken or would recommend.  Also check the comments section of this post for more reviews from readers.

Here’s a brief review of some of my favorite online scrapbooking classes.

Jessica Sprague – I’ve already reviewed her learn digital photo editing course and the beginning digital scrapbooking class, but I’ve taken many classes at Jessica’s site.  I have to say that her classes are the best to learn digital scrapbooking.  Her classes have become more expensive, but she also offers free ones as well.  These free classes are shorter than the others, but no less informative.  I recently took her Pen Tablet Basic for Scrapbookers course. I highly recommend that if you own a pen tablet.  If you’d like to broaden your journaling skills, Type + Writer 1&2 are excellent classes.
