I’ve been looking forward to the release of Everyday Storyteller. In fact, I’m spending most of National Scrapbook Day reading this book.

Everyday Storyteller helps scrapbookers bring their stories to life with simple ideas for the practice of memory keeping.

With advice for paper, digital and hybrid scrapbooking, the book takes the reader behind-the-scenes with real world storytellers. It includes more than 100 tips, tricks and techniques for capturing moments, telling stories and creating memories.

The contributors to this book are some of my favorite scrapbookers – the list is huge! The entire book is 81 pages. You can check out the Table of Contents and see all the fantastic topics covered in the book. It’s filled with useful and simple techniques for scrapbooking your everyday memories.

Organize Your Scrapbooking Ideas with Pinterest

Pinterest is a great tool for organizing your scrapbooking ideas. Though I do have to warn you that it is very addicting. A few minutes on Pinterest can easily turn into a few hours.

Pinterest is a site that allows you to build your own visual idea boards. Once you set up an account, you can create “boards” on any topic you like. Many scrapbookers create boards for ideas on layouts, mini albums, projects,

journaling, scrapbooking quotes and titles, photography and plenty more.

These visual boards are full of pictures and photos you have “pinned” from the internet. Some websites will have a link that says “pin it.” You can click those links to pin a photo to one of your boards. If a site doesn’t have a pin it link, you can download the Pinterest button to your toolbar and use this to pin from any site.

When you pin from other websites remember to always credit the original source of the photo. That way when it pins onto your board and someone sees in on Pinterest, they will be clicking to the original source of the photo.

Another way to fill your scrapbooking idea boards on Pinterest is to browse, search and follow others there. Similar to Facebook, you can follow other users on Pinterest. You can either select some of their boards to follow or follow all of their boards. Once you find something you like on another board, you simply choose to repin it and put it onto one of your boards.

Once you’ve spent some time filling your scrapbooking idea boards with photos from websites and other Pinterest boards, you’ll be able to use those boards for your next scrapbooking project. Looking for layout ideas? Open your layout board on Pinterest and scroll through all the photos you’ve collected. If you want more information layout, just click the link to the original source of the photo.

Scrapbooking Mini Albums – Magnetic Closure Tutorial

I love mini albums! Scrapbooking mini albums is my favorite way to scrap a lot of photos at once. Most of my mini albums are theme-based. The most common is a vacation theme, but I also have several for holidays like Christmas 2011 or Halloween Through the Years. The majority of my mini scrapbooks are made with chipboard covers and bound with binder rings or ribbon. When I saw Heidi Swapp’s 2-part video tutorial on how to make a magnetic closure mini album, I knew I had to try it.

The supplies needed are:

A file folder
Cardstock and a few embellishments
Chipboard
Adhesive
Business card magnetics (available at office supply stores)

What’s Your Scrapbooking Style?

What’s your scrapbooking style? I really should ask “What’s your current scrapbooking style?” I think for most of us our styles change over time. I know I’ve gone from clean and simple layouts to fancy, time-intensive layouts and right back again to clean and simple. I still manage a few fancy or complex layouts now and then, but my main focus is to keep it simple and tell my family’s stories.

I love this video from Webster’s Pages that feature 2 of their new product lines, Sunday Picnic and Clean and Simple. It also illustrates 2 very different scrapbooking styles. It sure inspired me to pull out some papers and embellishments and scrapbook!
