Scrapbooking

Five Places to Find Discount Scrapbooking Supplies

1. Dollar Stores: Believe it or not, many dollar stores have scrapbooking supplies.  Each dollar store chain differs in what items they carry, but nearly all of the national stores have some scrapbooking items.  Resist stocking up on these items before you check the quality available in your local dollar store.  Some offer excellent quality products made just for their store brand.  Others have out of season items from name brand scrapbooking supply companies.

2. Discount Chains: Have you seen the scrapbooking aisles at Walmart and Target?  Both stores have low prices on basic scrapbooking supplies, as well as scrapbooking kits and embellishments.  The selection varies at some stores, with larger scrapbooking sections at their super stores.  Be sure to watch the end cap displays in Target.  Target often places clearance items on the end caps, and I've found some great buys there at a fraction of the original price.

3. Closeout Stores: Even though the selection is limited and can vary from store to store, closeout stores like Tuesday Morning and Big Lots are worth a stop on your scrapbooking shopping trip.  These stores usually have a least a few scrapbooking items, but they tend to be name brand products.  I often find Memory Makers, Colorblok and Daisy D's supplies at these stores.  The cost is a substantial discount off retail.

4. Clearance Departments: I love the Hot Spot at Archiver's.  Archiver's, a national scrapbooking chain store, has section in the back of each store called the Hot Spot.  You'll find bins of clearance items, including embellishments, idea books, scrapbooking tools and albums.  It's always worth a least a quick browse through this section.  Sign up for Archiver's newsletter, and you'll often receive a coupon for an additional discount off Hot Spot items.  Your local scrapbooking store may also have a clearance department.

5. Newspaper Coupons: If you've been scrapbooking any length of time at all, you already know about the coupons for Michael's and Joann's in your local newspaper.  These coupons appear quite frequently in most major newspapers.  Both companies usually offer 40% off one regular price item.  In most cases, they have very few restrictions and no dollar limit.  Because they only apply to one item, they are best used for a larger scrapbooking product on your wish list.  I've used them for album kits, pen sets and xyron cartridge replacements.  Keep a close watch for their holiday coupons.  Holiday weekend coupons offer 50% off the regular price item and valid just for a few days.
