Tips for Using Military Scrapbooking Supplies

If you're looking to make up a scrapbook for someone in the service, you may be wondering where to find and how to use military scrapbooking supplies.  As the hobby of scrapbooking has become more popular over the past few years, there has been many new embellishments and supplies that are very specific, including vacation destinations, hobbies, careers, children's activities, and yes, military scrapbooking supplies.  So you shouldn't really have any problem finding what you're looking for!  Many companies have stickers, die cuts, titles, and other embellishments that are perfect for pages and albums dedicated to those in the service.

There are a few things you want to remember about using military scrapbooking supplies.  One is that you want to be sure that you're using the right materials for the person in the album.  Someone in the navy will not appreciate army insignia and vice versa!  There are specific uniforms they wear, medals they're awarded, and even terminology.  It's important to understand how different insignia is meant for different ranks within the military as well.  You wouldn't want to use a captain's bars when you should be using a colonel's bird!  When shopping for military scrapbooking supplies make sure you understand the specifics of these things as they are of course very important to the soldier.

You can also purchase many generalized military scrapbooking supplies as well.  These may be just generic sayings and stickers and other embellishments.  Take some time to shop around and if you're not sure of someone's rank or insignia, it may be better to stick with the generic material.

As with all scrapbooking materials, don't go overboard with the military scrapbooking supplies.  It's tempting to put everything you have on one page because you want to display all your embellishments but this will make everything seem crowded and busy.  Be selective instead and use some discretion.  When you have a page that you think is done, move some things around and take some things away and see if that doesn't look better to you.  Since there are so many military scrapbooking supplies available to you, it's easy to get tempted and try to use everything you have but remember that sometimes less is more.  And if you must use all your items and embellishments, consider making up more pages to honor your soldier, not putting more items on one page!
