How to Dress Up Blank Scrapbooking Layouts

If you're a serious scrapper, you know that you can find blank scrapbooking layouts in lots of places on the internet.  These are great for use if you want to make up your own page and add your own personal elements, but can be difficult for those who have little imagination when it comes to picturing your own layouts and thinking of how to dress them up and make them look unique.  So how can you add creative elements to those blank scrapbooking layouts while still making them look professional and personal?  There are a few simple tricks and techniques to consider.

For one thing, don't overdo it when it comes to adding your own personal elements.  Always try the accessories you're considering without actually gluing or attaching them to the page but just lay everything out.  A common mistake that people make when trying to dress up blank scrapbooking layouts is to add everything they see or have with them but this can really overwhelm the page.  If you try to add everything, you'll notice nothing.  Think of it as trying to accessorize an outfit - you certainly don't pull out every belt and scarf from your closet and toss them on!  Try just one or two things, step back and look at the page.  Add each item individually as you continue to look at it overall.  Remember, you can always take away all of your elements if it just doesn't seem quite right and start over with your blank scrapbooking layouts if you want; this is also a good reason to not attach anything until you're sure about your final result.

When adding the main element to your blank scrapbooking layouts, don't just put it in the center of the page but try moving it to one side or corner and using words or paragraphs on the opposite side of the page to balance it.  If you have several photos that compliment each other, line them up along one edge.  Or use complimentary page styles as borders to dress up those blank scrapbooking layouts.  You can tear them carefully to give them a jagged edge for an antique look.  They can also be used as frames or borders for your photos or other elements.  Just use your imagination and be patient, and you'll be able to create unique pages in no time.
