How to Become a Scrapbook Consultant
If you're interested in learning how to become a scrapbook consultant chances are that you've found a hobby that you love and now want to take it to the next level by turning it into a profession. It's not that difficult to learn how to become a scrapbook consultant but there are a few important things to think about first.
One thing is that many brick and mortar scrapbook supply stores are closing their doors; this isn't because people don't enjoy scrapbooking anymore but because many people buy their material from the internet and these stores are very expensive to keep open. It may be more difficult to become a scrapbook consultant than you realize since there are fewer and fewer physical outlets that sell supplies and consultants usually work with these stores in particular.
There are other ways to become a scrapbook consultant however. If you have a degree in graphic design you can always apply at manufacturing or production companies as a designer. This is the person that comes up with new designs for pages, as well as creating new templates and kits as well. Those things don't get put together by accident of course; someone needs to come up with the designs for the pages and then needs to put this paper with that one or make up templates and kits. Usually some type of degree or experience in graphic arts is needed to become a scrapbook consultant in this capacity. You need to show your portfolio and demonstrate your expertise in creating page layouts and designs before scrapbook companies will hire you.
One other area you may be interested in to become a scrapbook consultant is to become an independent advisor for scrapbook retreats and conventions. Usually these trips involve someone that's an expert or that is a good instructor showing scrappers new tips and techniques on how to create books and pages. There isn't necessarily any certification you need to be a paid instructor at these places but of course you need to demonstrate your expertise and show why a group organizer would want to hire you. This might involve having a good portfolio of pages you've created on your own. If you want to become a scrapbook consultant in this capacity you also need to be proactive in making yourself available to these organizers as they probably won't work to find you.
