Don't Overdo Those Funny Scrapbook Sayings and Titles!

People sure do like to add some funny scrapbook sayings and titles to their pages, and certainly there's nothing wrong with that.  Those additions can make your pages more personal and amusing and even more enjoyable every time you take a look at then, whether it's weeks or years after they're created.  Most people like adding these saying and really relish coming up with just the right pun or zinger that seems to fit the page or pictures.

But while they may be amusing to add and to look at after the pages are created, it is easy to overdo it with these funny scrapbook sayings and titles and to even hurt feelings in some cases.  As with all elements that you add to scrapbooks, sometimes less is more.  It's very easy to make a page look busy or crowded or even downright cluttered with different items and this includes the wording you add as well.  If you have too many words and phrases then people just can't appreciate any of them and they may feel as if they are reading a book, not enjoying a scrapbook!

Let's take a look at some cautions you might want to keep in mind before you just start slapping some funny scrapbook sayings and titles to your pages and you can see if any of these cautions might apply in your own cases.  Remember that you don't need to follow these cautions exactly but do keep them in mind when making up your own pages.

Using Funny Scrapbook Sayings and Titles for Children and Adults

There are so many amusing things that children do and so many adorable pictures that a parent can take; it's no wonder that funny scrapbook sayings and titles are just a natural part of pages that are dedicated to children.  But remember that older children can get embarrassed and self-conscious about things very easily.  They may not see the humor in certain pictures or the captions you use to describe them.  Having their embarrassing moments memorialized in a scrapbook may be enough for them to cope with, but adding those funny scrapbook sayings and titles may be like adding insult to injury!  Be careful when adding these things to pages about your kids and teenagers especially.  If you're not sure whether or not something is over the top it might be best to exercise caution and leave it out or modify it a bit.

It might not seem like it but many adults can be just as sensitive about funny scrapbook sayings and titles especially if they're marking years or birthdays.  Some people are a bit self-conscious about how old they're getting and this may be especially true if they've gone through a divorce, have no children, aren't very happy with their career, and so on.  It's easy for others to just laugh those things off and not think about the funny scrapbook sayings and titles they use but those who are being "honored" on those pages may be very sensitive and even very hurt by those words.

Use some caution when adding funny scrapbook sayings and titles when you create pages that feature a particular person, children and adults.  As they say, when in doubt leave it out; if you're in doubt as to whether a saying is funny or borderline hurtful, then leave it out.

Overdoing it With the Funny Scrapbook Sayings and Titles

If there's one common mistake that many people make with scrapbooks it's overdoing it with all the elements they add.  It might be too many stamps or stickers, or too much glitter, or just too many decorative elements.  It's also very easy to overdo it with the funny scrapbook sayings and titles.  While it's perfectly okay to add wording to your pages remember that most people don't want to actually read a scrapbook, but they just want to glance at it and get the feel for the page overall.  Adding some funny scrapbook sayings and titles should be done sparingly and carefully.  A title along one side of the page and some wording or sayings underneath that is typically sufficient.  When you overdo it with a long list of words and phrases or paragraph after paragraph, all the words get jumbled together and people can rarely enjoy any of them.

Instead it's best to have any funny scrapbook sayings and titles you use to be very brief and succinct.  Many scrappers emphasize one particular word or phrase on the title itself to really make it visually interesting.  You might do this with the first word or one of the more descriptive words.  You can also capitalize the first letter of each word or use a different font for them.  By doing this with your funny scrapbook sayings and titles you're just making everything more appealing to look at rather than keeping like a page in a typical book.  But of course this too presents some danger when using funny scrapbook sayings and titles; if you use a font that's too fancy or try to make too many words stand out you're going to wind up overpower the entire page.

When using funny scrapbook sayings and titles be sure to step back several times during the process and see how things are turning out.  Don't hesitate to take away some part of the phrase or pare down the title.  If it seems as if the words are overpowering or overshadowing the rest of the elements on the page, take something away.  Remember that the photo or other memento should be the main focus of the page, not the funny scrapbook sayings and titles you're using.

Keep these guidelines handy and remember to adjust them to fit your own pages.  You want to create a scrapbook that's special and unique to you but usually experienced scrappers follow these guidelines closely when working with funny scrapbook sayings and titles.  So keep them in mind and you're sure to have a beautiful finished product.
