If you have taken up the hobby of scrapbooking in order to spend more time with your kids, you're not alone. Many families are finding that this is a great way for kids to get creative and for everyone to spend time together, without the television or video games. But before you go out shopping, there are some things you may want to keep in mind when it comes to your kids' scrapbooking supplies.
For one thing, remember that children are still limited as to their attention span and creativity. While an adult may look at some inspiring photos of other creations by other scrappers and be able to imitate them or use them as a suggested design, children are more limited in this regard. You may want to consider kids scrapbooking supplies that are precut or pre-designed sets. This may include kits that include the coordinating paper, die cuts, borders, and embellishments. You can give your child or children some freedom in how they put their scrapbook pages together, but expecting them to start with kids scrapbooking supplies and come up with their own designs may be a bit of a stretch.
You also need to remember to be safe with sharp instruments such as scissors, paper cutters, and the like. Many kids' scrapbooking supplies come with designs already cut out, which is another reason to choose them over uncut embellishments. If you are going to let your kids use scissors and cutters, be sure they're adequately supervised.
And they may not be able to handle the smaller embellishments and elements found in most scrapbooks. When you purchase kids' scrapbooking supplies, make sure it's age appropriate. The very young children will have a problem with stickers and such, and may find that they're more troublesome than an adult would. You may want to stick with some larger items and embellishments.
Of course you want your kids' scrapbooking supplies to be something they'll enjoy using. Find kits that are appropriate for their school functions and their hobbies. If they love soccer, look for soccer pages. If they play a musical instrument, find some music related pages and items. While you may love to put in a scrapbook those vacation photos and mementos, your kids may not see the appeal. Make it something interesting and personal to them, and they'll love indulging in the scrapbooking hobby with you.
